The Toucans Playgroup is a multiage and dual-language early years setting in Tianmu, Taipei, for children ages two to six.

 

Our learning is fun, purposeful and mindful of the ways young children grow and develop. Guided by Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, our dual-language,

multi-age environment supports learners academically, socially and emotionally, preparing them for a confident transition into primary school in Taiwan or abroad.

巨嘴鳥位於台北天母,是一個為 2 至 6 歲幼兒設計的雙語、多年齡混齡學習環境。

我們的學習活動兼具趣味性與學習目的,並貼近幼兒身心發展的節奏與需求。在蘇格蘭「卓越課程(Curriculum for Excellence)」的引導下,

透過英語與中文並行的雙語教學,以及混齡共學的方式,陪伴孩子在學習能力、社交互動與情緒發展上的全面成長,協助他們自信地銜接台灣或國際學校的小學階段。

Learning that grows with your child

At The Toucans learning is guided by Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), a framework designed to support children to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.

 

Rather than focusing on early academic pressure, CfE emphasises curiosity, problem-solving, communication, and wellbeing - foundations that support both school readiness and long-term learning.

Alongside this framework, we offer a truly bilingual environment and a carefully structured multiage setting, allowing children to learn with and from one another in ways that reflect real social communities.

在巨嘴鳥,我們的課程以蘇格蘭「卓越課程(Curriculum for Excellence,簡稱 CfE)」為核心架構,這是一套以培養孩子成為成功的學習者、自信的個體、負責任的公民,以及積極的參與者為目標的教育體系。

不同於著重提早學科訓練的作法,CfE 更重視孩子的好奇心、解決問題的能力、溝通表達,以及身心健康,這些都是順利銜接小學學習、並支持長期學習發展的重要基礎。

在這樣的課程架構下,我們同時提供真正的雙語學習環境,並設計有系統的混齡學習安排,讓孩子能在與不同年齡同伴的互動中彼此學習,體驗更貼近真實社會的學習情境。

Dual-Language Learning
雙語學習

Language as a tool for thinking and connection

Learners at the Toucans are immersed in both British English and Mandarin throughout the day. We follow research-informed approaches to bilingual development, recognising that children naturally draw on all their language resources to communicate, think, and build relationships.

This means children are never asked to “switch off” one language in order to use another. Instead, we encourage meaningful communication across languages, supporting strong foundations in both English literacy (including systematic phonics) and Mandarin language development (including Zhuyin).

Our goal is not simply that children can understand two languages, but that they feel confident using language to express ideas, ask questions, and connect with others.

語言,是思考與連結的工具

在巨嘴鳥,孩子一整天自然地浸潤在英式英語與中文的雙語環境中學習。我們依循以研究為基礎的雙語發展原則,理解孩子會自然運用自己所有的語言資源來溝通、思考,並建立人際關係。

這也代表我們不會要求孩子為了使用某一種語言而「關掉」另一種語言。相反地我們鼓勵跨語言的真實溝通,並在此基礎上,同時建立紮實的英語讀寫能力(包含有系統的自然發音教學 phonics),以及中文能力發展(包含注音符號學習)。

我們的目標不只是讓孩子「聽得懂」兩種語言,更希望他們能自信地運用語言來表達想法、提出問題,並與他人建立連結。

Multiage Learning 混齡學習

Growing through collaboration and responsibility

Our multi-age environment reflects how children naturally learn in families and communities. Younger children benefit from observing and learning alongside more experienced peers, while older children develop leadership, empathy, and confidence through supporting others.

This structure allows learning to be flexible and responsive, rather than limited by age-based expectations. Children are encouraged to progress at their own pace, revisiting skills through different contexts and increasing levels of challenge.

Multi-age learning also supports social development, helping children build resilience, cooperation, and a strong sense of belonging within the group.

在合作與責任中成長

我們的混齡學習環境貼近孩子在家庭與團體中自然學習的方式。年紀較小的孩子能在與經驗較豐富的同伴互動中觀察與學習,而年紀較大的孩子則在照顧與協助他人的過程中,培養領導能力、同理心與自信心。

這樣的學習結構讓學習能夠更有彈性,也更能回應每個孩子的實際發展狀況,而不是受限於年齡分級的期待。孩子可以依照自己的步調前進,在不同的情境中反覆練習同樣的技能,並逐步提升挑戰的層次。

混齡學習同時也促進社交發展,幫助孩子建立面對挑戰的韌性、合作的能力,以及在團體中強烈的歸屬感。
